Springer Nature is a global research, educational and professional publishing business. The company was formed in 2015 by the merger of Macmillan Science & Education and Springer Science & Business Media.
Merging two separate businesses resulted in a large number of overlapping applications and business capabilities. With this increased complexity, the Enterprise Architecture team’s spreadsheet-based system for managing applications was no longer fit-for-purpose.
Using Corso Agile EA, the Enterprise Architecture team began to build a portfolio of all applications and capabilities across the entire organization. Working with various business units, they were able to identify duplications and eliminate those that were no longer required.
By rationalizing their application portfolio, Springer Nature have saved significant costs and reduced the complexity of their overall IT landscape. For the first time they also established a shared central repository for Enterprise Architecture and Application information, making it easy to store, share and re-use assets in an efficient and cost effective way.
