New Zealand Post Deploying erwin Data Intelligence Suite to Increase Data Integrity and Use

The nation’s 180-year-old postal service invests in data governance software to improve data literacy, data confidence, data quality and ensure regulatory compliance

MELVILLE, N.Y., September 4, 2019erwin, Inc., the data governance company, today announced that New Zealand (NZ) Post is deploying erwin Data Intelligence (DI) to improve data literacy, data confidence, data quality and ensure regulatory compliance. NZ Post, headquartered in Wellington, is the country’s postal service that has been delivering parcels, packages and mail for businesses and consumers for almost 200 years

With the erwin DI Suite, the organization can rationalize more than 600 applications to better manage and govern its data pipeline. This includes understanding what data it has, where it’s located, how it moves and transforms, and usage by different departments, as well as identifying any sensitivities and irregularities.

‘Doing the right thing with data’ is a key driver for NZ Post’s data governance initiative. Data legislation, like the New Zealand Privacy Act as well as the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), is shaping the way that NZ Post interacts with data, including looking at new data management and governance tools.

“If you don’t know what and where your data is, you can’t manage it,” explains Desire Ellams, Data Governance Manager for NZ Post. “Our business is evolving; the volume of parcels is growing, and the Data & Analytics team need to stay ahead of our competition by shifting to modern digital and data platforms. To do this we need to be more flexible and adaptable, which requires increased access to fast, trusted data coupled with intelligent usage from a single point of truth.”
